Traffic Engineering Trial in Matraman Extended

Jakarta Transportation Dept. is going to extend the trial period of traffic engineering in Matraman intersection area. As planned, it will be done within a week, starting July 27- August 2.

Jakarta Transportation Dept. Head, Andri Yansyah said, the trial shows a trend of better change. The long queue, speed, delay time and travel time of the passing vehicle can be shorter and faster.

He continued, in some segments, especially at Jalan Pramuka, there is a decrease of the traffic activity during the initial trial conducted.

"Based on the field monitoring, there is still not yet showing equilibrium number of the traffic," he stated, Thursday (7/27).

According to him, there are three solutions for improving traffic activity in Matraman area. They are close-open system at Matraman Flyover from east to north, trial extension and contra flow.

"So this can be concluded that trial will be extended for a week. Surely it's able to improve the infrastructure and the implementation of contra flow," he stated. 

He furthered the improvements made is contra flow applied along 300 meters on the west side of Jalan Matraman Raya from Matraman intersection towards Jatinegara (north-south).

Then, there must be demolition of median and guardrail, as well as tree logging at the end point of contra flow to restore the flow to the normal lane.

Then on Jalan Salemba Raya on the west side, contra flow is set from Diponegoro intersection towards Matraman intersection. Vehicles coming from Senen (north) and from Diponegoro (west) heading to Pramuka (east), will be rerouted to Matraman Flyover (north-east).

"Later on, it will be made a lane using the movable concrete barrier (MCB)," he closed.
